Dear 16 Year Old Me

Dear 16 Year Old Me

Letter to 16 Year Old Self

Don’t be in a hurry
To grow up to fast
Your teenage years are precious
and they will soon be in the past

Get your head down
and study hard at school
Don’t let yourself get distracted
by trying to act cool

Put in the work
to lay your foundation
You will be glad you did
When you reach graduation

Responsibility and family
they come all to soon
So make your mark in the world
Reach for the moon

The road ahead for you
will sometimes be hard
Lets others help
Let down your guard

You tend to be defensive
and don’t let others in
To accept offers of help
is no mortal sin

Your a compassionate person
who has empathy for all
So ask for some help
they will all heed your call

Your choice in partner
really will be great
He will always love you
and be your best mate

I think that’s all
I think that’s me done
Oh you will have two beautiful daughters
and a wonderful son

If only it were possible to send letters back in time…but all the mistakes that we made in our past have led us to appreciate everything in our lives in the present. Love the sentiment in the poem, especially the last 2 lines.
