Bygone Days

Bygone Days

Bygone Days

When I was a kid
it was a happier time
Kids were well mannered
and there was less violent crime.

The streets would be filled
with children at play
The streets are now empty
in the house they all stay

When I was a kid
we would have days out.
We would play in the sand
and would all scream and shout

We would bury my dad
to his neck in the sand
Then get a cone
from the on-site ice cream van.

Kids today don’t want to interact
They sit in their room
and often talk back.

With X-box and Playstation
They become anti-social
In their room on their headphones
is where they are vocal.

Kids need exercise
so outside they should play
at hop scotch and ropes
Like they did in my day

They won’t get much exercise
sitting up in their room
Where obesity and old age
will befall them too soon.

Sweets where a treat
be it lion bar or wham.
4 chews for a penny
you’d get from the van.

Sweets now cost a fortune
though the kids now eat more
The Dentists get custom
as their teeth all get sore.

I remember my dinners
where both simple and plain
Nothing was processed
and we all ate the same

Mince and tatties
or stew and puff paste
One dinner for all
and there was next to no waste

Now in my house
no-one eats the same
to cook different dinners
is a right royal pain.

In the old days the doctors
They had our respect
They explained everything properly
and where always direct

If you needed to see them
you only had to call in
They would fit you in that day
although appointments where slim

Nowday’s the doctors
have no time for their patients
It is now just a job
and no longer a vocation

If you are ill
and an appointment you seek
Plan your illness in advance
as it will take a few weeks.

Neighbours they cared
and looked out for each other
They treated there neighbour
like a sister or brother

Now we mind our own business
and get on with our life.
We see and hear nothing
that might cause us some strife

I miss the old days
when we all seemed to care
When the kids all had manners
and all said their prayers
